Review of Avengers: Infinity War

The popularity and success of Infinity Wars was not only seen through their Box Office numbers, but through the reaction of the fans. Being that I didn’t see Infinity Wars until a week after it first came out, trying to avoid spoilers was like trying to dodge bullets. It seemed like everywhere I went people were talking about the movie and how they were truly shocked by the film.

With all of its great reviews and a star-studded cast, the hype around Infinity Wars was huge, and after watching the film I was able to understand why. Infinity Wars is truly a thriller from the opening scene to the closing credits. The movie wastes no time establishing the plot as Thanos delivered a gut punch right out of the gate. As Thanos is proven to be the most formidable foes that the marvel superheros have ever faced, they have to join forces in able to attempt to defeat him. With the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther, there’s no doubt that this movie lacked superhero firepower. With that being said, one of my main concerns going into the movie was that many characters are going to seem forced into the plot in order to pull off this blockbuster film. I felt that that some of the superheros were going to be of very little use and simply be on screen to cause the audience to feed into the hype that much more, but I was wrong. While watching the movie, it was evident that every single character have their own unique and individual role in the movie. Every superhero on scene held an integral motive when it came to joining the fight against Thanos. Joe and Anthony Russo did an excellent job of holding each character into the plot over the course of a nearly three-hour running time.
The fundamental aspects of the main characters in the MCU that we have been following for a decade are clearly drawn in the movie. From tony Stark, to Thor to Steve Rodgers, each of these heroes’ defining characteristics remain fully developed in this epic story that takes place across multiple planets. Owen Gleiberman of Variety.com said that Infinity Wars is, “brashly entertaining jamboree, structured to show off each hero or heroine and give them just enough to do, and to update their mythologies without making it all feel like homework. At the same time, you may begin to lose hold of what made each of these characters, you know, special.”
It’s hard to draw any comparisons to the major commitment to of the MCU. Their ten years of record-shattering success separates them from other major movie series. I can think of some movie franchises that have been popular over long periods of times, but never as long as the MCU. Infinity Wars is the eighteenth movie of the series and it continues to carry on the legacy of success. ETimes review of Infinity Wars says, “Marvel Studios took a decade to meticulously plan this mammoth showdown of all their fictional heroes together for the first time on screen. To say that the MCU has a lot riding on this would be a gross understatement, evident by their massive marketing campaign visible everywhere.” Infinity Wars not only carried on the dominance of the MCU, but it also perfectly set that stage for Infinity Wars - Part 2, which is set to release in 2019.
